Suicide car bomb attack in Quetta wounded more than 50 and damaged homes near the railway line.

At least 24 people were killed and more than 50 others injured on Sunday after a suicide car bomb attack targeted a train carrying soldiers in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.

The Balochistan Liberation Army, a separatist armed group operating in the region, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion derailed several train carriages, some of which caught fire, while nearby houses and buildings sustained heavy damage, according to reports from the scene.

Images circulating online showed overturned and burned train cars alongside charred vehicles, with thick black smoke rising above the area.

Local media reported that authorities declared a state of emergency at public hospitals in Quetta, instructing doctors and medical staff to remain on duty as casualties continued arriving for treatment.

The attack comes amid an increase in armed violence in Balochistan, where separatist groups have intensified operations in recent months. Some attacks have also targeted Chinese workers linked to infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which connects China’s Xinjiang region to Pakistan’s Gwadar port.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing in a statement posted on X. “Such cowardly acts of terrorism cannot weaken the resolve of the people of Pakistan. We remain steadfast in our determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said.

The bombing is among the deadliest attacks reported in Quetta in recent months and underscores continuing instability in Balochistan, a province that has long experienced separatist violence and heavy security deployments.
